Tapping into Higher Consciousness
The Restless Mind: Written by Dr.Lal
In the mountain town of Selora lived a seeker named Arin. Though he had friends, work, and comfort, he felt something missing—a ceiling on his awareness.
At night, when the village slept, he lay awake wondering: “Is there a higher state of being? A wisdom beyond these thoughts that run endlessly through me?”
One evening, as he sat by the river, he whispered into the night: “If there is a higher consciousness, show me the way.”
The wind shifted. The river rippled as though listening. A voice seemed to rise from within him:
“To reach higher consciousness, you must learn to climb beyond the noise, yet root within the present.”
The Meeting of the Sage
Days later, Arin met an old sage named Eshan, who lived in a small hut among cedar trees. Eshan carried no possessions except a walking stick carved with spirals. His eyes glowed with a calm that unsettled and inspired at once.
“You are seeking,” the sage said without introduction.
Arin nodded. “I want to touch higher consciousness. To live beyond my restless mind.”
Eshan smiled. “Then you must walk the path of four gates: Silence, Surrender, Vision, and Service. Each will reveal a piece of the higher self. Will you journey?”
“Yes,” Arin said, heart trembling.
The First Gate: Silence
Eshan led him to a cave overlooking the valley. “Stay here tonight,” he said. “Do not speak. Do not distract yourself. Listen.”
At first, Arin’s thoughts roared like a crowded market. He remembered old regrets, planned tomorrow’s chores, even argued with himself. Hours dragged.
Frustrated, he nearly left—but then he noticed the sound of his breath. Steady. Soft. Like waves upon the shore. He followed the rhythm, letting thoughts pass like clouds. Slowly, silence blossomed.
And in the stillness, he sensed a presence—vast, infinite, yet intimate. It wasn’t outside him but within, waiting.
When Eshan returned at dawn, Arin whispered, “There is a doorway behind silence.”
The sage nodded. “The first step: quiet the noise, and the higher voice can be heard.”
The Second Gate: Surrender
Next, Eshan guided Arin to a cliff where villagers came to release offerings. “Here you will learn surrender,” said the sage.
Arin carried a bundle of old letters, symbols of his attachments—dreams unfulfilled, loves lost, fears carried. His hands trembled as he held them over the edge.
“What if I lose myself without these?” Arin asked.
“You will not lose,” Eshan replied. “You will return. To cling is to remain small. To release is to expand.”
With a deep breath, Arin let the bundle fall. As the wind carried it away, a strange lightness filled him. He laughed and cried at once, realizing the weight he had carried was never needed.
“The second step,” Eshan said, “is surrender. Higher consciousness cannot enter a clenched fist.”
The Third Gate: Vision
On the third journey, Eshan led him deep into the forest, where a great tree stood, its trunk wide as a house.
“Sit here,” Eshan said, “and open not your eyes, but your inner sight.”
Arin closed his eyes, breathing with the tree. Slowly, visions arose—not fantasies, but luminous images. He saw himself as light extending beyond his body, connected to the stars. He saw the village, every person glowing with threads linking them to one another.
He realized: We are not separate. We are one field, one consciousness wearing many faces.
Tears streamed down his cheeks.
“The third step,” Eshan said, “is vision. Higher consciousness shows the unity hidden beneath division.”
The Fourth Gate: Service
Finally, Eshan brought Arin back to the village. “The last gate is not in caves or cliffs,” he said. “It is here—among people.”
Arin asked, “But how does service open higher consciousness?”
The sage pointed to a weary woman carrying buckets. “Help her.”
Arin rushed to her side, carrying one bucket. She smiled in relief, blessing him. The simple act filled him with warmth more profound than silence, surrender, or vision.
Over the following weeks, Arin served where he could—teaching children music, helping elders with firewood, comforting the lonely. Each act deepened his awareness, expanding his heart until he felt the same presence in others that he had first touched in silence.
“The fourth step,” Eshan said, “is service. Higher consciousness is not only light within; it is love expressed without.”
The Trial of Ego
Yet Arin’s journey was not without challenge. One day, pride crept in. “I am awakened,” he thought. “I see what others cannot.”
That night, his dreams grew dark. He saw himself building a tower of light, but it crumbled into dust. From the dust rose a voice:
“If higher consciousness becomes a crown for your ego, it turns to ash. Only humility keeps the channel clear.”
He woke shaken, realizing the path was not about rising above others, but rising with them.
The Final Teaching
Years later, Arin sat again with Eshan by the river. “What is higher consciousness truly?” he asked.
The sage smiled. “It is not a place you reach, but a state you remember. It is the part of you already infinite, waiting beneath noise, fear, and pride. You touch it in silence, strengthen it in surrender, expand it in vision, embody it in service.”
Arin bowed deeply, gratitude flooding him.
Arin’s Return
When Eshan passed into the great beyond, Arin became a guide for others. He did not speak in riddles but in simple practices:
- Be still daily. Listen for the silence beyond thought.
- Release what you clutch. Surrender creates space for new light.
- Open inner sight. Meditate on unity, not separation.
- Serve with love. Every act of kindness awakens higher states.
He taught not by lofty sermons but by example—calm presence, compassionate eyes, gentle guidance.
And many in Selora began to taste glimpses of higher consciousness for themselves.
Epilogue: The River’s Song
In his final days, Arin returned to the river where his journey began. Sitting by its banks, he closed his eyes and listened.
He felt silence within, surrender flowing, vision glowing, service fulfilled. The river whispered once more:
“You did not climb to higher consciousness. You dissolved into it. For it was always here, flowing, waiting, singing through you.”
And with that, Arin became one with the great current of the cosmos—his spirit no longer seeking, but forever awake.
Practical Keys for the Reader
The allegory leaves us with four practical gates anyone can walk through:
- Silence – Begin with daily stillness. Even five minutes of observing breath can open a doorway.
- Surrender – Write down what you cling to. Release one attachment—physical, emotional, or mental—this week.
- Vision – Practice seeing unity. Meditate on how all beings are threads of one fabric.
- Service – Each day, perform one act of kindness without expectation.
Together, these practices tune the mind and heart to higher consciousness, where wisdom, peace, and love naturally flow.
